Ultrasound Updates in Gbaiima

Sunday we spent some time in Bo district fixing technical problems for Gbaiima clinic and Gerihun. Unfortunately, the midwife we trained in Gerihun has been transferred to another facility, so we’ll have to figure out how to train up the new midwife to use the equipment (because we give it to the facility, not the individual), and see how we can get another Butterfly probe to the facility she’s been transferred to.

While in Gbaiima, Anthonett had a few pregnant patients to scan and we did some refreshing since it had been awhile since she had last scanned (due to the technical issues and she had a baby in Dec!!). Here she detected a low lying placenta during her scan, and we made plans for her to follow up for a repeat scan since she was early along in her pregnancy.

Anthonett spent the rest of the afternoon scanning more patients. Her commitment to the community is really unwavering. She requested a point of care lab test for the clinic (there are currently no blood test capabilities) to check the presence/degree of anemia in patients to provide guidance in treatment and decrease their risk of complications from birth. We’ll do our best to get them one for sure.

Little by little, day by day, it was a very productive weekend and we’re looking forward to the week!
